The Experience
Crete's Hidden Side,
Wide Open Throttle.
No previous buggy experience required — just a valid driving licence and the curiosity to go where the tour buses never reach. From the Minoan Palace to mountain gorges, a historic cave, an award-winning olive mill, and a private beach at the end, this is 80 kilometres of the real Crete. Your guide leads the convoy; you drive at your own pace and stop when you want to stare.
Itinerary
-
Start — Malia BaseHotel pickup and transfer to base. Safety briefing and hands-on driving practice with the buggy before departure. All equipment and helmets provided.
-
Stop 1 — Minoan Palace of MaliaGuided tour of one of Crete's finest Minoan archaeological sites — a palace that stood here over 3,500 years ago. Optional entrance fee applies.
-
Stop 2 — Villages of Sissi, Epano Sissi & MilatosCruise through some of the most characterful coastal and hillside villages in north-east Crete — whitewashed houses, narrow lanes, and the unhurried pace of island life.
-
Stop 3 — Milatos CaveExplore the famous Milatos Cave (2,100 sq m, 73m long). Inside, a small chapel built in 1935 stands as a memorial to locals massacred here during the Ottoman period. History written in stone.
-
Mountain Roads & Gorge CrossingsHead up into the mountains on dirt roads, crossing dramatic gorges with panoramic views over the north Cretan coastline. This is where the buggy earns its keep.
-
Stop 4 — Village of Latsida — LunchThe longest stop of the day: a traditional Cretan lunch at a local taverna in Latsida village. Time to eat, talk, and let the morning's adventure settle.
-
Stop 5 — Vasilakis Olive Factory, NeapoliVisit the fourth-generation Vasilakis family olive press — an award-winning Cretan olive mill. Learn why their oil keeps winning prizes and taste the difference yourself.
-
Stop 6 — Vrahasi Ethnic MuseumStep into the village of Vrahasi and explore a small ethnic museum showcasing the tools, crafts, and daily life of Crete's rural past. A quietly moving stop.
-
Finish — Private Beach & ReturnEnd the day with a swim at a small private beach near Malia. Then back to base, transfer to your hotel, and home with dust on your boots and stories to tell.
